Calories in Sushi
83How many calories are in sushi? When many of us eat out, we think about how many calories are in the pasta, or that steak, or the pretty looking cheesecake. But how about sushi?
With sushi becoming increasingly popular in Canada and the States, and all you can eat sushi restaurants becoming a common option, it can be helpful to know how many calories are in the common items at sushi restaurants.
The good news is that sushi is not only delicious, but it's also healthy. There are some things, such as tempura or Japanese mayo, that are items of caution for the calorie-counter, and while it depends on how much you eat, a sushi restaurant is certainly a safe place for someone who wants a healthy meal.
This hub includes nutritional information in maki sushi, nigiri sushi, and other common items at sushi restaurants including miso soup and tempura.
Calories in Maki Rolls
Maki rolls are the typical cylindrical rolls of sushi. With information from The Sushi FAQ and Calorie King, I've compiled a list of popular types of maki sushi and how many calories they have.
Please note that the information is per roll (6-8 pieces). However, the nutritional information relies on the individual restaurant or provider. Every restaurant makes their food a little differently. For example, different places may use different amounts of rice in a roll, which will change the amount of carbohydrates. I only included fat/carb/protein breakdowns which I could find. Please use the following info as only a guideline.

Calories in Nigiri Sushi
Nigiri sushi is a sushi item (raw fish/seafood) on top of a small bed of rice. This differs from sashimi, which is simply a piece of raw fish/seafood by itself.
There are many types of nigiri sushi (because there are many types of fish and other options in the sea...) so I have listed a few common ones here. This information is from The Sushi FAQ.
Calories are for per piece. The Japanese name is listed first, with English name in brackets.

I love Sushi! My favorite is Shrimp Tempura and I am not counting calories, LOL.
Awesome! I always wondered if it was as healthy as it tasted...

I LOVE SUSHI !!!
I went to Sushi Maru in Spokane WA last night. I was wondering how much damage I was doing to my 85lb weight loss. I was thrilled to read this article. I may have had 500 calories and was very satisfied. The only thing I remain in the dark about is the smoked muscles I ate. They were certainly tasty and seemed kind of rich.
Wow this info is fantastic! I wanna steal it for my Sushi hub, but I won't don't worry. lol. It sucks cos the my fave types of sushi seem to have the most calories in them :(
Very Interesting and useful hub!
Thanks for taking the time to do this! I love sushi and always wondered... Like everyone I watch what I eat - except when it comes to sushi!!! Good to know it's not too bad; also great to know the calorie count on nigiri pieces! Good work!
LIKE SUSHI !!!
Very informative. Thanks!
Great to find this informative sushi calorie counter. We were just headed out for a sushi lunch, when we were able to count up our meal in advance. We decided we needed to exercise BEFORE lunch! Smile! Thank you, we can make healthier choices at the sushi bar now! :)

This was very helpful for me because I am doing a school project where I have to log the calories, carbs, fat, and protein of everything I ate starting Friday and ending today and last night I had sushi...So thanks. The only information you didn't provide would be the carbs, fat, and protein of miso soup but overall this was very helpful
